Punkins October 26, 2008

Posted by mandsrix in Uncategorized.

We’ve really been enjoying preparing for the boys’ first Halloween.  We took them for FHE last Monday to pick out pumpkins.  They were so excited about these strange orange things and did not want to let go of the stems so we could put them in the car.  On Thursday we had a pumpkin carving party with some friends.  The boys wore some hand-me-down pumpkin costumes and I made dinner.  After we sent the boys to bed we all carved our pumpkins with pretty cool results.  The boys still have not decorated their pumpkins yet- we’ll let them do that this Friday- but for now you can enjoy some pictures of our pumpkin fun.

Six little punkins 🙂

We gutted our pumpkins before our guests arrived and let the babies play with the guts.  Gabe had a blast but Elijah wanted nothing to do with them.  After touching it once, he scooted to the back of his chair and held his arms up in the air.  Gabe, meanwhile, was throwing pumpkin innards and piling them in his lap and on his head.

Here are the boys in their costumes.  Elijah was the “before” pumpkin and Gabe was the “after” pumpkin.  Our friends got a good kick out of them.

Here are some of our friends Katie and Sahael with the boys in their jammies.

And finally- here are the carved pumpkins.  Can you guess which one is mine?  I’ll also include a close-up of Marc’s so you can see his awesome handywork. (He was concerned that you couldn’t really see his pumpkin in the group shot.)

Great pictures! I’m impressed with those jack-o-lanterns. Did you use patterns?

Marc and our friends used Pumpkin Masters patterns. I always find a picture online and print it out then adapt it to my pumpkin. I feel just slightly less like a cheater that way. 🙂

The babies are cute. I like the “before” and “after” costumes. Those pumpkins are amazing. I think we’re going to carve ours soon, but I don’t know how intricate they’ll be. I love the pumpkins. Do you use a little knife with batteries that goes back and forth (I am sure there is a better name or description for that) or do you just use regular pumpkin knifes? We borrow Ryan’s mom’s electric knife one year and it made it way easier.

No electric knives here- We just use the little serrated knives that come with the Pumpkin Masters kits and good old steak knives from the kitchen. The Pumpkin Masters knives are great for detail work, but easy to break. Let me know when you post your punkins on your blog- I’d love to see them.
